Do I have to notify the general contractor when filing a Mechanic's Lien against the owner?

Florida

In Florida, when I file a Mechanic's Lien for non-payment through Levelset, is it required to send a copy of the lien to the general contractor?

It depends on whether you have a contract with the GC. If you are working directly for the GC, then you do not have to deliver or serve a copy to the GC, although it is a good business practice to do so by regular mail. If you are a sub-subcontractor then you must deliver a copy to the GC and the owner to perfect you lien rights. Delivery is typically done by certified mail, return receipt. The actual statutory delivery requirements are: (a) By actual delivery to the person to be served; if a partnership, to one of the partners; if a corporation, to an officer, director, managing agent, or business agent; or, if a limited liability company, to a member or manager. (b) By common carrier delivery service or by registered, Global Express Guaranteed, or certified mail, with postage or shipping paid by the sender and with evidence of delivery, which may be in an electronic format. (c)  By posting on the site of the improvement if service as provided by paragraph (a) or paragraph (b) cannot be accomplished.
