A contractor filed a Mechanic lien on my property. I received notice on January 5th. I paid for it on January 22nd. What do I need to do to have that lien discharged?
In South Carolina, the lien release form is used to cancel a lien that has already been filed. It is most often used to release a lien after the lien claimant (party that filed the lien) recieved payment. South Carolina law requires that a lien be cancelled within 10 days after the lien is satisifed. If the lien claimant fails to release the lien penalties may result for the lien cliamant.
