Could you pls give authority that "California does it right and gives an artisan lien to design professionals?"

TexasDesign ProfessionalMechanics Lien

This is to Nat Budde, who just answered me about the Texas authority for design professionals lien (engineer) based on your blog "What is an Artisan's Lien?" I would appreciate the citation to California's statute giving design professionals an "Artisan's Lien". I am trying to show Texas that an engineer is an artisan for purposes of the Texas Constitutional Lien, and that an artisan is a design professional. Thank you!

I hope you don't mind me answering in place of Nate! § 8400-8404 of the California Civil Code provides mechanics lien rights to "design professionals," among others. And, to be sure, § 8014 defines the term "design professional" to include licensed architects, engineers, surveyors, and landscape architects. Further, § 8300-8318 of the California Civil Code also provides the ability to file a "design professional's lien" (as opposed to a traditional mechanics lien) in situations where design work is owed but unpaid for a project which has not yet been undertaken. More on that here: How do I file a design professional lien in California?
