Contractor working with suspended license

CaliforniaLicenses

I recently had quartz countertops installed in my kitchen. I ordered and paid in full through Home Depot. Home Depot contracted out to an installation company. The countertops were fabricated and installed the wrong size, multiple problems including backsplash not flush with counter, peninsula the wrong size, sink cutout not with zero reveal as ordered and no water connected for over a month. Multiple attempts to contact Home Depot and Valley Install, minimal response and no resolution from either company. Now find out Valley Tile Install Services is working under a suspended contractor license. Have requested full refund with no response. What recourse do I have at this point?

If it's under $10,000.00 you can file a claim in Small Claims Court. If it's under $15,000.00 you can file a claim with the CSLB and the Contractor's Surety Company. Both are listed under a license search at cslb.ca.gov. If your damages are over those amounts you should contact a construction law attorney.

If Valley had a suspended license during the time that they performed or were contracted to perform the work, you have a claim to recoup all money paid for them.

Depending on the amount you might be able to file a claim in small claims court.
