Yes, if you are a contractor or supplier that has not been paid on a construction project in Florida, you can file a lien to secure payment. A mechanics lien is a legal tool that provides an unpaid party with a security interest in the property. If improvement has been made to a property, likely mechanics lien rights are present.

Filing a Florida mechanics lien is a quite simple process that involves: filling out a proper Claim of Lien Form, serving a copy of the lien to the property owner, and filing the claim in the county recorder's office where the property is located. The general rule is that the mechanics lien must be filed within 90 days from the last day labor, services, or materials were provided to a construction or renovation project.
