How is construction considered essential? Other than money.

The Department of Homeland Security has designated many types of construction as essential, and every state allows for construction to continue during this pandemic, at least to some limited degree. It makes sense why some construction must continue - contractors and specialty trades must be able to perform work that's necessary for businesses and individuals to remain safe. And, it's important that public infrastructure and buildings remain safe as well. But you're right - that doesn't mean all construction should be considered safe and should carry on. Contractors and others in construction will absolutely use these apparent loose restrictions on the construction industry to their benefit - sometimes stretching the rules and limits of common sense. Still, the construction work necessary to keep people and businesses safe should continue. To keep tabs on how different states are treating construction, here's a tracker that'll be useful: Can I do Construction Work In my State? And, if it looks like construction workers in your area are performing work work that shouldn't be considered, you can always report that to your local authorities.
