Can I sue a contractor for abandonment of a job?

Florida

First, we did not have a written contract. I hired a business owner and two helpers to put new flooring in 80% of my home and to paint my kitchen cabinets. I bought all of the requested materials for the job. The did 2 rooms of the home’s floor, removed all the cabinet doors/drawers and sanded (without marking where they go back), and then abandoned the job. Their explanation, “we knew we couldn’t make you happy.” I had made one comment about the flooring, which did not require them to redo any part of the job. Now I am left with my house in shambles from moving all furniture for the flooring and my entire kitchen is in boxes and unable to be used. He has now filed an intent to lien on my home for non-payment.

In my opinion, you should contact an attorney and draft a demand letter. Not only requesting that they desist moving forward with the lien, but also explaining you would file a lawsuit for breach of contract.
