Can I send a 20 day prelim as soon as I get a contract?

CaliforniaPreliminary Notice

I am a subcontractor. We install cabinets and casework. Am I able to send out our 20 day prelim as soon as I get a contract? This would be much earlier than when we start working at the job site. Sometimes it is months after signing the contract that we start delivering material for installation. Thank you,

The short answer, yes. Under Cal. Civ. Code §8204, a preliminary notice must be given no later than 20 days after the claimant has first furnished work. Sending a notice early will be completely valid, even the California courts have said so. For further reading, see: The Ultimate Guide to California's 20-Day Preliminary Notice
