Can I renew a lien before the (1) year is up?

We filed a lien in September 2020 and wanted to know if we can renew sooner than the (1) year is up?

in NY, you are entitled to extend a lien. You likely need a court order, so you need to start early. You will need counsel.

On commercial property, you can renew the lien the first time without a court order. You can also extend it 2 more times but would need a Court Order. On residential properties, you need a Court Order and can only renew the lien twice.

You can….but it is best to wait until the year is almost up….b/c the 1 year extension will kick in on the date you file the extension, even if there is a month or two left upon the original filing.
