If you are an employee of a contractor and do not have a contractor's license yourself, then you probably cannot lien anyone. The lien typically goes against the property worked on and benefits licensed contractors who are not paid by the owner or the general contractor rather than employees of those contractors. However, there are stiff penalties for failing to pay employee wages (assuming you are an employee rather than an independent contractor), and even if you are an independent contractor you still can sue for breach of contract for what you are owed.
