Can I pursue small claims after I have released a lien (we are releasing the lien for reasons other than payment)?

We filed a claim of lien. We still have not received a payment from the owner of the property. We would like to release the lien (for reasons other than receiving a payment) and pursue small claims court. Is there any law that states we can not do that for some reason? Thank you.

As long as the mechanics lien release doesn't indicate that payment was received or that the debt has been satisfied, then releasing a mechanics lien shouldn't block the ability to pursue other legal claims.
