Can someone file a memorandum for mechanics lien for general contractor Virginia code 43-5 to f they do not have a license?? And if they do not have a contract? I have an ex boyfriend who helped me with some work on the home and I broke up with him and he has filed a $30,000 mechanics liens 43-5 and he does not own a business, is not licensed for any business, is not licensed for construction, and is not a general contractor. my ex-boyfriend stated that he felt he was helping me do work on the house for us and now there is no more us because I broke up with him and he wants money. My property is owned by my LLC, for which I am the sole owner and I would like to petition the court myself but was told I must have an attorney if my property is owned by an LLC and if the lien was claimed against the owner of the property which is the LLC. Is this true? Or can I file a petition to the court to have it removed myself? If so how should I go about doing this? - Can I petition the court to remove the mechanics lien if my property is an LLC?
