Can i obtain a General Building contractors license in Texas if i do not currently reside in the state ?

TexasConstruction Contract

I am currently a licensed building contractor in California and i am looking to move my operations to Texas. I wish to obtain info. regarding the best way to do so . Can i get a license in Texas without currently living there? I am in the "High end custom home market " and am not sure of all of the things required in Texas. Please shed some light for me, Thank you, Scott

Good news. No general contractor's or building contractor's license is required. Welcome to the business friendly, Great State of Texas.

Local communities may require that you register as a contractor, so it depends on which community interests you.

Texas law, and especially mechanic's lien law, is much different in Texas than in California. Contract law is different as well.

Retain a construction attorney to evaluate your situation and to provide advice.

Good luck.
