Can I lien the property even though it has sold?

MichiganMechanics Lien
Anonymous General Contractor

Im a contractor and my last date of work was late January. Sadly, my collection efforts have failed. I want to lien the residential property but I noticed that the home sold to new owners a month after I finished work. Can I lien the home even though there is a new owner?

Assuming you are a licensed contractor, as long as the lien is FILED within 90 days of the last day you actually did work at the site you can lien the property -- even if it has changed owners.

As long as you follow the lien requirements, you can file a lien. In this case, the lien must be filed within 90 days of the last day you provided material or labor on the job.
