Can I include the lien cost in the lien amount itself?

AlabamaMechanics LienRight to Lien

We work in Alabama and have lien deadlines coming up. I am wondering if I can include the cost of the liens and lien cancellations in the “amount owed” I list on the mechanics lien.

The amount on an Alabama mechanics lien should typically be limited to amounts that are owed for the work that was performed. Extraneous amounts - like interest, fees, and the costs of filing the lien - generally shouldn't be included with the claim, itself. Keep in mind, though - when negotiating the payment of the lien, a claimant could absolutely request that their customer pay the costs of the lien filing. What's more, if the lien results in a legal dispute, it's also possible that a claimant could be awarded amounts like interest, fees, and filing costs if they prevail.
