Can I get a lien on a property?

Tennessee
Anonymous Contractor

My grandmother and I had an agreement that my fiancé and I and our child could use our own money to fix up an old empty house to live in. The agreement has been broken and she wants to put the house up for sale. Is it possible to get a lien without us being a company?

Good morning,

Under Tennessee law, only a licensed contractor has lien rights. However, you might have a claim for breach of contract or, in the absence of a contract, an equitable claim for unjust enrichment.
