Can I file a small claims suit in the Reno court for a customer in Mound House, NV?

Nevada

I have a customer who has paid 2/3 of what he owes me for a phone system I installed. It's been a couple of months since the last payment.

I'm sorry to hear you've had payment problems. When a dispute has occurred, small claims court is often an effective tool to recover payment without the cost and time of traditional litigation. Of course, small claims court actions are limited by dollar amount - and in Reno, it appears that limit is $10,000. If brought in Reno, small claims exceeding that amount should be brought via some other method. In Lyon County, where Mound House, NV appears to be located, that limit is $7,500. I'll admit, though, that at the Construction Legal Center, our expertise doesn't quite lie in small claims court procedure. However, there are some general principles that should apply. For one, a small claims court action could likely be brought wherever the defendant's business is located. Further, a claim could likely be brought in the jurisdiction where the event occurred giving rise to the cause of action. Beyond that, though, I'm afraid other online sources may be more useful, such as this Reno Guide to Small Claims Court.
