Can I be held liable for a leak after the bathroom remodel was completed and paid for?

Michigan

I completed the remodel to which the homeowner was completely satisfied and happy with. Paid me a d away I went. Shortly after a leak developed in the shower drain. The homeowner has argued and raised a huge fuss. Won't let me come fix the issue during normal work hours. Only gives me certain dates and times, usually after hours when he can supervise me for some reason. Won't let me just come over and fix it. Now is stating I'm not allowed to come over at all and probably expects me to pay for someone else to fix the leak. What should I do?

I have been over once during his after hours request and found exactly where the problem is only for him to tell me to leave because he had to leave. I have worked at his home for weeks with him away and now he won't let me be there without him. He expects me to only fix it when he's available to watch me which is usually after 4,5 6 pm. You'd think he'd want it fixed asap as so did I. Going back and forth trying to resolve this, now he's "done working with me". What to do?

The short answer: If your work does not meet the quality standards of your industry (in other words, if the leak is your fault) then you are liable to fix it. Whether you spend your time and money to get it fixed or the customer pays someone else to do it and bill you, makes no difference to the homeowner. Either way, they are entitled to plumbing which does not leak. My recommendation is to meet at the house whenever the homeowner says and fix the problem yourself. You will likely save yourself a lot of time and money in the long run.
