Can an ex-employee of a company I hired file a mechanics lien against me/my home?

CaliforniaMechanics Lien

Hello— I recently received a certified letter from 2 men stating they would be filing a mechanics lien against my property. These men are apparently ex-employees of a company I hired to do foundation repair on my house. They are claiming the company didn’t pay them commissions while they worked for this company. I have paid the foundation repair company in full for their work. I have no idea what these men are talking about. These men did no foundation work on my property as employees of this company or otherwise. I called the company and was told to ignore the letter- these men can’t file a lien. Can they file a mechanics lien against my property? Will the state of California issue the lien? This seems to be a fraudulent attempt to extort money from me, but I am concerned I should do something more than “ignore” them. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
