I hired a company to redo my kitchen cabinets and he failed to complete the job. I gave him 15 chances to get it right. He failed. and I told him that I would not pay him for the shoddy job. now he wants to file a lien on my property for a job that is not complete.
This is exactly what the lien law is for - to give contractors who do work security for payment. The fact you dispute his work is something to be litigated in court should your contractor file suit to enforce the lien. You may not want to wait until that happens to contact an attorney to assist you with this matter. Once the contractor files suit, he (or she) will want payment for the attorney's fees to file suit, which the law allows contractors to recover if they prevail on their lien.
