Can a contractor foreclose on my house after a lien?

MichiganConstruction ContractForeclosureLien ForeclosureMechanics Lien

I had a contractor work on my kitchen remodel. Start date was suppose to be on 17th of May with an end date two weeks. They completed some work and then he didn't show up for 3 days within those two weeks. I took a day off from work for him to complete some electrical work and he didn't show up. My counter top was delayed for a week due to poor measurements of the cabinet spacing. There is noticeable unsatisfactory work done on the kitchen. I had to hire someone else to do the work as he backed out of the job and didn't want to show up as I had requested. I then stopped the payment of 1900 due to loss of time due to paying another person to finish the work. What should I do now as he is threatening me with a foreclosure on my house. BTW there was no CONTRACT signed.

Contact an attorney IMMEDIATELY. The contractor breached the contract and you need to figure out what you owe the contractor -- you probably owe him something. Further the contractor could file a lien, and foreclose to get any funds due him. That does NOT mean you do not have a defense, eg. poor workmanship, breach of timeline, etc.

How can he file for foreclosure on my house if there was no contract signed? You are right I owe him 1900 now but I need to know if I should still pay him?

If he is a licensed contractor, if you owe him money, etc, he can file a construction lien on the house and foreclose. It does NOT require a written contract -- however in this case a written contract that stated a strict timeline for completion would actually be helpful. Those are a LOT of "if"s. I cannot advise you your rights or responsibilities without knowing a LOT more about the situation than a few words in an anonymous question.

I could go a lot more in details i just needed to know if he can forclose my house but there is a lot more he backed out of the job. I was scrambled to find someone else. As the work was not finished I missed a day of work due to electrical work and I work from home. He did not show up for 4 days out of the two weeks he then wanted to delay the work another two days as he did not want to be travelling back and fourth. Which extended the project to the third week. I had to move the apliances delivery the countertop measurements had to be delayed and to top it all off he said he is not finishing the job and that i can find someone else and to pay him for the work. Any answers help or suggestions of what i should do?

HIRE AN ATTORNEY TO ADVISE YOU. I cannot give you any more advice without a thorough review of the situation and Levelset with any anonymous questioner is not adequate.
