Hello, Thanks for the informative website. I'm interested in learning more about filling a lien against a contractor for a hotel project. I'm owed ~$1,300 and have only heard a response of, "you'll get paid, when I'm paid." It's been past the net 30 arrangement, and I feel if I don't take further legal action I'll never get paid. Your input and advice would be much appreciated. Matt Sloka mattsloka@gmail.com Denver, CO
I am sorry for the issues. You should file a lien as those are often effective for commercial projects. It is less so for residential such as single-family.
This is a good article on the process https://www.levelset.com/blog/how-to-file-mechanics-lien-colorado/. Then find a Colorado construction attorney to review it and provide you advice on the process for a low flat-fee. Our office does this work for a flat-fee so search if there are other similar Colorado construction firms that offer that as well and then schedule a consultation. Most of us offer free initial consultations.
