I am a independent contractor that roofs residential homes. Am I considered an essential worker?

North Carolina's stay at home order is pretty flexible. For one, all businesses who meet social distancing requirements are able to operate as essential. So, if you aren't interacting with anyone, presumably, it should be pretty easy to argue the work can continue on that front.
Further, construction has largely been allowed to continue. This is particularly true where the work is being done on a residence or public work, and when the work is necessary for the safety of others. Circumstances can change quickly, though, so keep an eye out for any updates from your local and state governments.
