Are Architects and Engineers entitles to mechanics lien rights in Iowa, whether the land or building is improved or not?
In Iowa, whether architects are entitled to lien rights at all can be a bit of a grey area, as they are not mentioned specifically in the lien statute. However, through prior case law, it appears that if the property is not actually improved, an architect will not have mechanics lien rights in Iowa. Of course, other modes of recovery (such as litigation) will still be available to recover amounts for unpaid work.
