A fraudulent mechanic lien on my condo

Virginia

I'm an owner of a rented condo. There was a water damage caused by the negligent of another unit. A contractor came over to help mitigate the water damage and entered my unit. He ask me to give him an authorization after he had already started dryers in my unit. I asked him who is paying, he stated it's going to be my Condo association. I said okay because that's the usual norm. However, I didn't sign any contract with him, he refused to provide my condo association an invoice. Police officers were called to remove him because the association think he's a fraudulent person for ordering the asso manager to sign a document to authorize work to which she doesn't have authority. Now he's bragging that he'll placed all the three condos involved on mechanic lien. The worse thing is that he forged a signature that his not mine a contract, and created an invoice for $3850 for a job he didn't perform. What are my options?

Are you the renter or owner of the condo? If the contractor forged a signature on a contract then you should consider contacting legal authorities to report the conduct. In order to file a lien, the contractor would need to be properly licensed as a contractor in Virginia. If the contractor is licensed, then you should consider filing a complaint against the contractor with the Virginia Board of Professional Licensing. If the contractor is not properly licensed, it is not entitled to pursue legal action to collect money for the alleged work, and it is also guilty of a criminal offense in Virginia for performing work without a license.
