A contractor for an apartment complex is sending us invoices that are from sometimes 3 years ago.

New York

I am the owner of an apartment complex and the guy who does our carpeting has been submitting me invoices that are sometimes 3 years old. Is there a time limit where after a certain time we are no longer obligated to pay him? As you can imagine if is difficult to keep track of what work he has done from prior years and it is a great way for him to submit for work he hasn't actually done.

There is a 6 year statute of limitations on this type of claim, so that is the theoretical outside date. However, may i suggest that for these old invoices, you request back up. it sounds like the contractor is in trouble and has sold low quality receivables.
