About Coulter McMahen
Coulter McMahen is an Associate at Taylor Porter, where he practices in various areas of general commercial litigation. He is admitted to practice in all Louisiana state courts, in the United States District Courts for the Middle, Eastern, and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Coulter is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, and Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel.

Coulter earned his J.D. in 2017 from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he received a graduate certificate in energy law and policy and was a chancellor’s scholar. He also competed in the Frank A. Schreck Gaming Law Moot Court Competition as a member of LSU Law’s Gaming Moot Court team as well as the Tulane Sports Law Mardi Gras Invitational as a member of LSU Law’s Sports Moot Court team. During law school, Coulter served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Brian A. Jackson, Chief Judge, United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana. He also clerked at Taylor Porter, both in 2016 and 2017. One of Coulter’s more memorable experiences was the summer following his first year of law school when he served as a legal intern for Travelers Insurance at the corporate headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut.

Following law school, Coulter was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable S. Maurice Hicks, Jr., Chief Judge, United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. During his time in Judge Hicks’ chambers, Coulter’s workload included both civil and criminal matters in the Shreveport and Monroe Divisions. In the civil setting, Coulter handled bankruptcy appeals, employment discrimination cases, Section 1983 civil rights litigation, commercial contract dispute cases, and many cases involving various Louisiana state law claims. He also assisted Chief Judge Hicks in researching and evaluating the merits of motions presenting questions of federal jurisdiction.

Coulter graduated from LSU in 2013 with a bachelor of science in finance with a minor in geology. At LSU, he served as vice president of Kappa Sigma as well as rush chairman. He was also named to the Dean’s List and received the Kappa Sigma Scholar-Leader Award. Coulter currently serves as board secretary of the Star & Crescent Foundation, established by alumni of LSU’s Gamma Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity to carry on the fraternity’s legacy and build upon its core values of fellowship, leadership, scholarship and service.

In his spare time, Coulter enjoys playing golf, fishing and hunting, snow/water skiing, and cheering on his beloved alma mater, the LSU Tigers.
