Any paper not relating to real property and required by law to be recorded – §8021(b)(5): Cover Page (affixed by County Clerk) $45.00 plus $5.00 per page

(f) (1) Prepare a copy of any paper or record on file in the office, minimum of $1.30 for up to 2-page document, plus $0.65 each additional page to maximum of $40.00

(2) Certify a prepared copy of any paper or record on file in the office, minimum of $5.20 for up to 8-page document, plus $0.65 each additional page to maximum of $40.00

(3) Prepare and certify a copy of any record or paper on file, minimum of $5 for up to 4-page document, plus $1.25 per page to maximum of $40.00

How do I get a recorded copy of my lien from the Erie County Recorder's Office?

You can obtain a recorded copy of your lien in person, by mail or online.

Copy fees are as follows:

Copies (first 2 pages): $1.30

Copies (each additional page): $0.65 (The maximum charge for copies or certified copies of a document is $40.00)

Certified Copies (each additional page): $1.25 (The maximum charge for copies or certified copies of a document is $40.00)

There will be a minimum $2.50 convenience fee charged by the credit card company and applied to your transaction. Payment by Check, Cash or Credit Card are accepted in person.

To request and obtain a plain or a certified copy of a record by mail, complete the appropriate Record Copy Request Form available here:

If you are unable to print one of the forms, then write a letter containing as much detail as possible including:

1. the name of the document you are searching for such as “a deed” or “mortgage discharge”; and
2. the name of the owner, the property address including the village, town or city; and
3. the approximate date of the transaction or years you would like searched; and
4. the Book and Page number if known. (no search fee added if this is provided)
5. contact information for requestor. (name & phone number)

When submitting a request via mail all fees must be included in the check or money order. The check or money order should be made payable to the Erie County Clerk and mailed, along with your request form and a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope, to the Erie County Clerk’s Office, 92 Franklin St., Buffalo, NY 14202. It is important you provide the postage-paid self-addressed envelope. If not provided when paying by check, the County Clerk will hold your request until an envelope is sent to the office for return mailing. If you are unsure of how to calculate the fees, you may pay by credit card. The contact information the County Clerk collects from you on the form is how they will reach you for payment. If you reside outside the United States, contact the Clerk’s Office for special instructions.
