I am a sub contractor who got two bathroom romodels at 461 Humboldt st and Robert ( the project manager ) gave me the paperwork to fill out and said to turn it in along with invoice in order to get paid also Robert said to go to a notary public and have the paperwork notorized so I felt comfortable because. I finally had someone to trust cause he is even having me notorized the paperwork and all. A day prior to finishing the Remodels dead line which was one day past due because the materials did not get there on time Robert knew and said it's no my fault . So we continued that day in the morning when I receive a call from Robert and he said if I could go to another bathroom remodel with him he neeeds to give an estimate so I went to lake wood for the demolition and he gave the price collected half of the money in advance for his company and I demoed the whole bathroom gone cleaned up and went back to the house I was previously working on and tried to finish the last part of the laminate flooring material which was late . So I worked all day demoing the lawood house bathroom and then I continued working at the house in denver I asked homeowner if I could stay just so I can finish her house she agreed and I worked til 5 am in the morning and then I had to be at the house in Lakewood to continue the remod at 8 am when Robert came to the house in denver the one I was supposed to turn in that day along with the paperwork notarized and the invoice for the remodeling job Robert called me upstairs to bother the upstairs bathroom and he told me he had lost a client and it was my fault cause the client in Lakewood had said I did a horrible job and did not want me or his company back in his house in Lakewood. And said now remember what happens when your fired no pay for any work done and I old me to leave and not to contact homeowner cause he is mad . So the day went by and I was depressed because I had lost about roughly$ 6000 for both projects and I had so many bills and employees to pay and all and I thought of suicide came across my head and I quickly vanished it with positive thinking and decided to send homeowner in Lakewood a text and then I received what I had suspected I have the text from the very home owner staying it was not my fault that they never said they did not like my work it was all a lie to fire you with no pay and said that Robert had lied to them and he did not want to know about Robert at all cause he is a sc artist and his boss is on goggle being a scammer to many others and noone ever does anything to this people and he pays people to put good review on google maps. That's why he has 4.3 stars on google and people believe his scams . Please helmet on this one....Read More

A contractor (friend) owed me money. He did work on my house as a payoff for part of the money. The work included installing some stones for the house new look. Apparently the company that supplied that stone and delivered to my house did not get paid and they put a mechanical lien on my house. Am I responsible? I have no contracts with neither the contractor or the company that supplied the goods. ...Read More

I work at a Solar company and it’s family owned. We have a customer who is giving us the run around on payment. (Customer has paid 30%/100% total contract price) Telling one person one thing, turn around and tell someone something totally different and sometimes no response what so ever. We have upheld our end of the contract and we really didn’t/don’t want to take legal action but we have come to a point where we aren’t sure what to do next?...Read More

I am a subcontractor in California. I sent a certified mail copy of Mechanics Lien to the GC and Owner, but have not yet filed with County Recorder. GC told me sending a Mechanics Lien Release will not affect my rights to file a Mechanics Lien at a later date (job is not complete yet), and wants to settle after job is complete in two weeks. Is this true? Will I have enough time to file a Mechanics Lien after job completion (especially with COVID-19 shut downs)? Sorry, duplicate question with added tags!...Read More

We contracted with a local remodel company. We informed the company of our budget for the bathroom remodels. There was a total of three bathrooms that were to be done. We have a signed contract and an email that includes from him the scope of work. We were given budgets for tile and flooring, he picked lights for 2 bathrooms. Hardware was not specified in the contract but we purchased this at our costs. He received 1/3 at signing then another 1/3 once he had completed 2 bathrooms with some small items that needed to be addressed. We then also gave him another 5000.00 draw on the total contract. We did have him sign the receipt of these payments on our copy of the contract. Work is almost complete but he approached my husband yesterday Friday and demanded 5000.00 more dollars for change orders. We have not signed any change orders and the contract specifically says that all change orders be in writing and signed by both parties. He walked off the job asked for his tools which we let him have he also too all the materials that were being used for the job paint, tile and flooring. The floor and tile work have been completed with the exception of a small area that needs grout. We still owe him 8650.00 but the job is not complete. We are missing the floating and painting of the master bath and bedroom, the shower door and the shower head. There is also some additional cabinet work for the closets bathroom cabinets. He has stated unless we give him an additional 5000.00 and the balance to complete the job he will put a lean on our home. What are our options? ...Read More

Hi, we are a sub-contractor pursuing payment from a general contractor. We have just received a letter from the GC stating that they have issued a Notice of Default and Termination on the project that they were working on (which is the same project we were on also). What does this mean for us in terms of payment? I'm concerned as our lien time is drawing to a close very soon, I think we have another two days to file, so if you could get back to me as soon as possible with regards to whether we should file a lien or not? The letter does go on to say that the GC intends to pursue its claims for nonpayment according to the provisions of their contract with the owner, including amounts claimed by its subconstractors - not sure if that helps. Look forward to your reply. Thank you....Read More

We have a large national restaurant chain customer with about $28,000 in unpaid invoices for work on many different facilities in about 15 different states. This customer filed CH 11 last week. Are we able to file liens for past due invoices on property owned by a third party landlord or will that be construed as an action to collect a debt and therefore not allowed due to the Chapter 11 filing. We're assuming we will get little to nothing through the bankruptcy process for invoices submitted before the filing. ...Read More
