I remodeled a bathroom for what I thought was a nice older couple once job was completed and homeowners were satisfied with the work completed I was given a bad check then went back to property to get a new check once home owner gave it to me he canceled it as I pulled out of drive was and said there was a leak so I came back the next morning to address the situation and the home owner had a trip scheduled for the next day and said they would not be back for a week so I took down anything holding water or possible places the problem could be caused from to dry so once back from the trip I can come back and fix the issue and get paid so I got $1,000 of a $3,500 balance for reassurance that I was not getting screwed over and that I could come back fix any problems with no charge for anything but 2 day before homeowners were scheduled to return I was sent an email asking me to not come back and my services are no longer needed so I’m trying to find out what I can do to get paid the $2,500 balance owed for the work I completed ...Read More

I have been working for this individual who is a sub-contractor for one of the area's largest home builders. He hired me at $15.00 per hour; but only pays me at $12.00 per hour saying that he made a mistake and cannot pay me $15.00 per hour. Then, he only works me 6 or 7 hours per day and not all week long. But wants me to work Saturday and Sundays to keep on schedule. Well, the week before Christmas, I worked about 36 hours, by working up to 3am one night. I was to be paid the Friday after Christms, but payday has not come. I keep calling him, but he does not answer. He does not return calls, and he is not calling me for work. I will not work for him now anyway. I had problems cashing two of his checks. But, I need that last paycheck. How do I get paid?...Read More

We are a hired subcontractor who have not been paid for work done in February/March of this year. The GC is in the process of filing foreclosure on the property. Until now we have not made any legal action against the GC or the contractor. Can we lien on this property or file anything under the foreclosure to try to get some of our invoices paid? What are the next legal steps for a subcontractor who did not file a lien on the property within the time allotted time frame. Can we file a lien still? What are the legal kickbacks possible if we file and they reject/challenge the lien? ...Read More
