I am a subcontractor in California. I sent a certified mail copy of Mechanics Lien to the GC and Owner, but have not yet filed with County Recorder. GC told me sending a Mechanics Lien Release will not affect my rights to file a Mechanics Lien at a later date (job is not complete yet), and wants to settle after job is complete in two weeks. Is this true? Will I have enough time to file a Mechanics Lien after job completion (especially with COVID-19 shut downs)?...Read More

I am a HVAC contractor on a site for a future hotel. There is absolutely no way to follow the guidelines for social distancing or wearing the proper PPE because there are none available. No running water, 40-50+ people there daily, 2 portable bathrooms which are not clean, and having to share the same tools, space, etc with many others. The general contractor says we are essential and have to be there despite all the health risks we are putting ourselves in. Is there anything that can be done to protect ourselves without breaking contracts?...Read More

I have a problem because the contractor I was working for fired me before finishing the job, just because I was demanding the payment he owed me for the work done, after that he doesn't want to pay me and doesn't answer my calls and He hides me so as not to pay me and I need to recover my money, so I need the help of a lawyer to be able to do it.

Should we consider opening new bank accounts for the PPP loan? This would help us keep these funds separate. The plan would be to deposit the loan funds into the new account, to get new checks for payroll/direct deposit payroll checks from the new account, etc. An alternative could be to move the money from the new account into our normal account each week for payroll. What is the best practice here, and what should we be concerned about?...Read More

I paid Rebath half of the $15k total for my bathroom remodeling project. ($7,500) they've not done any of the work. Still waiting for the rest of my materials. They now say they are going bankrupt and I can either wait "a month or two until they're able to get to my project" or come get my materials they've ordered and have somebody else finish the project or wait until they file and my account will be included in the bankruptcy. I'm not sure what to do. I need the job done but don't trust them. Thanks for your time and help. ...Read More
