How do I confirm I am not paying twice on a Change Work Order? The original contract included refurbishment of the porch which included; Siding & architectural details Installing porch railings & columns Exterior framing of porch Painting We determine there was more damage to the porch then originally thought and my contractor provided a Change Work Order. In review it looks like he wants to charge for the same items in the original contract which he has already been paid without giving credit. Siding Installing porch railings & columns Exterior framing of porch Painting Is it proper to have a separate contractor estimate the porch rebuild?
CaliforniaCan an owner ok a change order, have the GC issue the CO to a sub then later change what he wants done to the work in the CO and because he doesn't like the amount ask the site contractor to complete the work issued to the sub and ask for a credit from the sub?
CaliforniaThe Owner, Architect and Contractor agreed to a CCD. The work was completed and presented to the owner and architect. They are refusing payment on the CCD and referenced an addendum in the original contact.
LouisianaHello. A builder built a home next door and changed the grade in Saint Louis County, Missouri. There was several damages done to our property due to this change. We are in a lawsuit, and cannot find where to go to get help. The swale was removed and changed the direction of the water that affected our property and the natural water flow. Who would you suggest we get help from? Army Corp of Engineers, Sewer District, as we got zero help from our county. They provided and approved all permits to the owner with an evident change of grade. Any suggestions you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

ArizonaWe had a contract with an electrian that billed us for changes we did not approve. The contract clearly states he has to have signed change orders. Which he does not have.
OhioWe started a project on a fireplace but the project was held up for permitting. The customer lives in a city that was very difficult to even get the permit. We are finally completed with the project and find that the fireplace has increased in price by over a $1000.00 since we started. Do we have to eat that as the GC or can we bill the customer? They have paid 50%. We have completed framing and outside of the home repair. Everything is done except for insert which was a change order. The original project was a full kitchen and family room remodel. Which is 100% complete and passed final inspections.
ColoradoNot a situation yet. I'm a plumbing contractor and work in small towns in the county. In all of my years in business, I can't remember filing the proper paperwork to cover myself in case of nonpayment. Most deals are sealed with a hand shake or a signature on the proposal. Things are changing in the area and I have had a couple of close calls, as far as payments are concerned. Not really familiar with the proper order or specific documents I'm supposed to file. I do a lot of renovations for homeowners. Most projects don't exceed $8000.00. I have a handful of contractors I work with also. I would like to start filing the proper paperwork to cover my ass ets. I'm starting a job for a homeowner who's pulling his own permit as owner/builder. Being the plumbing contractor on the job, do I file a Notice to Owner?
FloridaI'm a subcontractor that finished a job and did extra work as the general contractor asked us to do. It was mostly trade damage, they never approved our pay after we already did the extra work for them. They haven't really refused to pay for the extra work, their Project Administrator called our Change Order price ridiculous. Our employees took pictures and have proof of the extra work we did. They are refusing to pay for change order work after the fact.
WashingtonI was wondering if it is possible to make a change to a Prelim notice due to the contract amount for change orders.
CaliforniaWe have a GC that will deduct back charges / and or deductive changes from our invoice without any sort of notice. Every time this happens I get notified by our controller which in turn I asked the GC for the backup. So far every back charge or deductive change is completely invalid and I've disputed each one. Regardless of my dispute the GC still deducts the dollar figure from our invoice / check. Is this legal? If so what is the proper way to deal with this?
CaliforniaLets say I was hired to do about 20 small jobs in another state .My pay was based on a per job basis .When i start the project it turns out the none of these jobs were surveyed properly so i end up having to drive to these jobs and more only to find out that the entire week was a waste.
As a contractor am i able to charge for showing up to every site and for the time traveling from site to site ?

AlabamaI'm a subcontractor on a project and was directed to proceed with a change order but have not received payment. The GC I work for is going to file a lien but I'm at the point where I need to perfect my lien. It's imperative that I do as they are holding the monies for the change order as well as retention. About $175,000 total.
CaliforniaHi, I am looking to o a partial termination or deduction of order on one contract. Our contract has no termination cause and am hoping we can get someone to quickly help us out to get the contractor off. He’s done about 90% of the work, but we don’t want him to any other work. We have final inspections and have already paid him most for the job. We want him to stop working on the rest of the work. I have to bring in someone to do the final fixtures, redo some of the tiling, and clean up. Hoping to get some help with the contract.
