If further work is done and further liability by the owner is incurred, does an additional lien need to be filed or can the amount just be added when the lien is being paid off?

WashingtonThe contractor has a contractor license. We have no written contract, and he has not given me a preliminary notice to file a lien. The contractor only did about 60% work and never come back to finish, so I had to hire someone to complete the work. I told him to pay him the portion that he finished, but he threatened me to file a lien against my property. My house is under contingency and will close next month, I do not want any trouble.

I had a LOT of trouble with this painter, and before he finished my job, my neighbor changed her mind about working with him. He never worked for her. We finally found a family member and found out our client had passed away in Feb 2021.
