I am a subcontractor to a solar developer based in New York City. I finished an installation for this solar contractor a few years ago and have only got partially paid. There is still over $14,000 remaining. I have a receipt of the materials delivered to their client site (based in Staten Island - New York City). I have also emailed our client (solar contractor) a job specific invoice a number of times but they have gone silent. My supplier sent me a partial order of materials and then disappeared when I requested the rest of the materials. 3 months went by, several phone calls, voicemails, and text message go unanswered. I filed a charge back on my credit card. No communication from the supplier still. He lost the investigation and I was awarded the monies back. He is now trying to file a mechanics lein against my customers house. What can I do to contest this? The supplier contacted me days after the charge back processed, demanding the money back and is unwilling to negotiate for the materials I had to buy to replace what he did not send out. ...Read More

My company is a general contractor for a solar project being executed in New York. One of our subcontractors has sent us a mechanics lien notice for non-payment of sums that were never approved by us under change orders. We are looking to contest the lien claim for lack of substance, but aren't sure if we can write to the county where the site is located to stop recordation of the lien claim by providing a notice of contest along with proof, or we need to wait out until county takes any action on the lien notice delivered to them. Could someone please advise the recommended course of action to contest the mechanics lien for being unsubstantiated....Read More
I hired a contractor to replace a concrete pad on my house and also move a portion of the fence. He has finished the concrete and told me that he would finish the fence job first thing in the morning. (Conversation was on Sunday afternoon, with him finishing the work on Monday morning). I have made many attempts to contact him and he had not responded yet. I have to usually reach out on a daily basis to get updates and timelines, but generally he responds within 12 hours. It's been almost 48 hours since I've last heard from him.
I have paid for all the materials as per the quote, but he has not delivered all of the fence materials. I just want to finish the job myself or hire someone else to install the fence. ...Read More
