We have a question about licensing requirement to manage some construction work. We are a management consulting company, NOT a licensed Architect or License Construction company/Contractor. We are proposing to manage the installation of some video security cameras, poles and concrete pads at guard houses (entrance gate to the parking lots) of our client in 30 stated. We were planning to hold the contract with our client and then subcontract the actual work to licensed contractors in each state. We planned to coordinate their work. We hold the contract with the owner and then issue sub-contract to the people performing the work. There is not high voltage power work, or plumbing. Only cameral cables and conduits, post and concrete based for the posts (all work to be done by subcontractors). Do we need to be licensed? ...Read More

I was hired to fill in a swimming pool and level the yard. After the initial rental of a bobcat and 2 truckloads of dirt plus the last 3 truckloads of dirt and 2 days of rental costs for another bobcat. Between these I used my own money to buy more dirt (approximately 10 truckloads) and rental of a bobcat for 14 days. I have asked the contractor for money but he keeps saying that the owner needs to pay more money. When I spoke with the owner he said that the contract was between him and the contractor and he can't discuss the funding with me. I currently have NO money to pay my bills and I already have 2 in delinquency. Can I file a mechanics lien on this contractor. Him and I don't have a written contract. This was all on verbal agreement between us....Read More

I own a water mitigation company. I filed a mechanics lien via levelset on the 90th day of the last day on the job (deadline in MI) to collect payment from a customer. Levelset has issued a notification that as of today, I am past the deadline. Is this correct? Does the lien have to be recorded on the 90th day, or filed (the lien paperwork shows filed on 11/4/21 which is within the deadline) on the 90th day? Thanks in advance. ...Read More

Have a question about a Michigan Residential Maintenance and Alterations Marble and Tile exam. There seems to be no information regarding what is covered on this exam. I've called the State Licensing folks numerous times. As much as I hate to say it, their answers were almost embarrassing. It is interesting to me that the state would require a license, yet they have no interest in assisting a contractor that would like to do the 'right thing' and acquire the license. I have purchased the Michigan Residential Contractors Code Book as well. There are no regulations related to Tile Installation referenced in the Code Book. It seems to be a mystery as to what is covered on the Marble & Tile exam in Michigan, yet it is required by the State prior to installing tile as a contractor. I am searching anywhere I can think of to get answers as to how to pass this exam. Thought I would ask here as well. Does anyone on this panel have any ideas as to what the Tile installation guidelines may be? ...Read More
