IowaI hire a handy man to renovate my bathroom and I gave him some upfront money. Now he finish the job with several flaws, damage to my bathroom floor and some thing he did not replace like we deal on the verbal contract. I told him to come to my house sitting down to discuss and I would like to have some money back before I pay my last part of the deal. He denial to get money and he told me he will put the lien on my property. What I have to do for protecting my home record? and may I sue him about that after I know he would put the lien on my house? Thank you.

We paid a contractor half of his asking price and he began work replacing and repairing our front and back decks on our private one family home. He asks as a favor to pay off the balance, which we did and we have not seen him on the project since. We have communicated with him regarding this, but his replies are of course sketchy and vague. Can we use a mechanics loan to recoup our losses?

IowaIs this the wisest thing to do? As I've been shut down and locked out of project only while the general contractor is there! I need my tools and need to only finish very minor plumbing about 4 hours work until two weeks ago I was paid weekly while the general was in Florida at Thier other home they've been back two weeks now and have slowed the whole job down and two weeks have passed and no pay and no progress as they've been on other projects with little time for this one!! I've tried everything I'm prepared to file a lien with the home owners if I can't get finished and paid Saturday the 31 st of July!!
IowaI hired a contractor to fix the drywall in my basement due to water damage. This was an insurance claim, and the contractor was a preferred vendor for the insurance company. I paid my deductible to the contractor, and my insurance company paid the rest. The contractor hired a drywall company to complete the work. The drywall company wasn’t paid by the contractor for the work (it’s only been 30 days since the work was completed.) The drywall company is calling me threatening to put a lien on my home. Can he do this considering I was contracted with the contractor not the drywall company, and I paid everything in full.
