A Minnesota mechanics lien claimant must serve the property owner with notice that they've filed a mechanics lien against their property. And, that notice must generally be made personally or by certified mail. But, it does appear that a claimant can serve it themselves if they'd like - and, any method which can show the owner has actually received notice of the filing would likely be sufficient. After all, that's the point of the notice - to put the owner on full alert that a lien was filed against their property.
Finally, I think this resource might be valuable: A Mechanics Lien Was Filed on My Property – What Do I Do Now? What's more, if a lien has been filed against your property, it may also be time to consult a local Minnesota construction attorney for help defending against the lien or negotiating a settlement.
