I was wondering im doing work in ohio but the company that is failing to pay is in Alabama which state would i file a lien through

Liens are so powerful because they attach to the property that is being improved, and can result in the foreclosure and sale of the property to satisfy the debt. This means that a mechanics lien is always filed where the work of improvement is located, not where any of the parties are headquartered, or otherwise do business.
Because the lien must be filed in the location of the work of improvement, the laws of that location (notice requirements, deadlines, form requirements, etc.) are the laws with which the lien claimant must comply. If a project is in Ohio, Ohio laws apply.
