I'm trying to find information. I hired a contractor to do a roof and gutters. The job was botched and every time it rains my roof leaks. It has leaked in 3 areas now. In my county where I live I found out that there should have been a permit to complete the roofing job, but I didn't know that and apparently the contractor didn't know either. I'm trying to get any information I can to get this resolved. I've asked for my money back because it's obvious they are not experienced roofers because every time it's rained (besides this last time) they've sent someone to my house to try to fix the leak. I called a license roofer in my town and they told me that they wouldn't fix the problems because if they tried and and they couldn't they'd be on the hook. I've called the city to get information on the what happens when there is no permit. I haven't gotten a response yet. So I'm trying all angles to get information. Thank you.
You have taken the right steps thus far, but you need to be more persistent. Fina roofer who will do the job: if necessary, you may need a complete roof tear-off and reconstruction. Once the roof is to your satisfaction, you can sue the original contractor of the cost you had to incur. I realize this all sounds backwards, but utlimately you have to either let this go and live with it, or have someone do the job right and sue the first contractor for damages.
