Florida

I Worked for the bargain mall for 4-5 months and didn't receive even aa quarter of the florida state laws for compensation. While working there I paid the owner Mr. George Connelly $1500 for payment for a trailer that is located behind the business he signed a contract that neither me or my fiancé could sell the property or be made to leave by the other party we all three signed this document, three days later Mr. Connelly demanded for us to leave the property and now has put a trespass on my fiancé and the police even after shown documents said we have until midnight to retrieve our belongings. Please help I don't know what to do next.

I'm not sure a lien would be appropriate given the situation described above. Generally, mechanics liens are available for construction-related work that improves the project property. And, while other liens exist, in terms of involuntary liens, the only other option that comes to mind is a judgment lien - but a judgment lien can't be filed unless and until a judgment is in hand showing that the other party owed a judgment. Of course, that's not to say there's no way to recover payments that are owed to you but unpaid. For smaller legal disputes ($5,000 or less), Florida small claims court might be an option to recover a debt. Unlike traditional litigation, small claims court helps to speed things along and tends to cost a lot less than a full-blown lawsuit. Since my expertise is in construction law and construction payment, I'm not sure I can confidently provide much more help here. But, keep in mind there are always online resources - such as this one from Nolo - which might be able to help you navigate your payment dispute and determine how best to proceed. And, if necessary, consulting a local attorney might be helpful, too.
