What is involved in extending a lien for a single-family residence in New York?

New YorkLien DeadlinesLien Foreclosure

We do residential jobs in New York and filed a lien about 18 months ago. The customer didn't pay after getting the lien and we are looking to get that lien extended. Do you have specifics on what is involved in extending a mechanics lien on a single-family residential project? Outside of that, what might some other options be? Thanks for your insight.

A mechanic's lien in New York lasts for 12 months.  Before it expires, it must be extended or foreclosed upon.   To extend a lien on a single-family residence you must apply for an obtain a Court order before the lien expires.  A lien that was filed 18 months ago, unfortunately, has already expired if it wasn't extended.
