What goods and services require a Preliminary Notice?

CaliforniaPreliminary Notice

Hello! We do wood and metal fabrication. Generally, we install what we fabricate and I file a prelim when we sign the contract. Sometimes we fabricate something (a decorative metal panel, for instance) and just deliver it to our client. Do I need to file a notice in this case? Thank you!

If the client is the property owner, and you have a direct contract with the property owner, you do not need to serve a preliminary notice on the owner to preserve your lien rights. If you do not have a direct contract with the property owner, your materials are furnished to a work of improvement, and you want to preserve your lien rights, then you do need to serve a preliminary notice.
