States have options to recover amounts owed that go beyond what a general creditor has access to use. As set forth by the Iowa Workforce Development website, some of these options in Iowa include: - State and/or Federal income tax refund interception - The Department of Revenue will match social security numbers with individuals who have an overpayment debt payable to IWD (If the claimant or the claimant's spouse file taxes jointly, their refund may be intercepted to pay the overpayment debt) - lottery intercepts - vendor payment intercepts - wage garnishment actions - UI benefit payment offsets - voluntary repayment plans - liens If the amount due arises from an employer's nonpayment of unemployment insurance tax, a lien document may be recorded with the county recorder's office and a lien claimed against all of the employer's real or personal property located in that county. Iowa Workforce Development may create individual payment plans for repayment, (for further information you can call 888-848-7442, option 4). Or, payment can be made online or through the mail. Additionally, a request for waiver of the overpayment amount can be made, as well. The request for a waiver should be sent to Iowa Workforce Development Overpayment Waiver Request 1000 East Grand Avenue Des Moines, Iowa 50319
