we did not file our NTO in time and now cannot file a lien to collect the past due balance. is there anything i can do on my end to try to get paid?

Yes. A lien is only one remedy you have to try and get paid. You can bring a lawsuit for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, or possibly other claims. You should consult with an attorney to see what claims you may actually be able to bring.
