What can I do about the threat of a lien?

Good evening, I have a subcontractor threatening to file a lien on my house because he damaged my refrigerator when installing it. My contractor intervened by reducing the amount I owed him and he would bill the subcontractor. The subcontractor now wants my refrigerator or he will file a $1000.00 dollar lien. What can I do?

Hello, First, find out whether the subcontractor was paid the full amount of what he was owed less that damage to the fridge that was claimed. If he has been paid, a lien may be invalid. Let the subcontractor know that he may be liable for the costs you incur in removing an invalid, or unenforceable, or outright fraudulent lien.
