What can a GC do to prevent a lien from unlawfully being placed on a property?

California

I requested that my vendor fix some work that they completed without a change order and now the vendor is requesting payment and recently sent a preliminary notice. They have already signed conditional and unconditional lien waivers, but I fear that a lien is coming our way. Is there anything I can do to prevent the lien from being filed?

It seems that your vendor thinks the "fix" of the work is actually extra work that is not covered by the original lien waivers, therefore entitling him to a lien. Without knowing more, it's hard to say what your best options are. You may need to speak with a construction attorney about this. to explore your options.
