Are fringe benefits required to be paid to an independent contractor or subcontractor on a prevailing wage job in CT. The prevailing wage is required but are fringe benefits required? Subcontractor is not paid by the hour typically. He is paid by an agreed upon price for the project. Paid with check from our company for the entire project. Thank you.

Generally, fringe benefits don't need to be paid to independent contractors, even on prevailing wage jobs. Rather, fringe benefits - or a cash substitute for them - must typically only be paid to those who perform work as employees on public works jobs. However, it'd be wise to consult a Connecticut prevailing wage expert before making any determinations or decisions. A local labor attorney or prevailing wage consultant could be really helpful on that front, and services like eBacon might help, too.
