What are my requirements from Missouri

IllinoisPrevailing Wages

My question is: We are a business who services and installs garage doors etc located in Missouri. We go into Illinois, if we are doing basic service work at an Illinois public school, are we required to pay OUR employess the prevailing wages for that county in Illinois.

Prevailing wage rules, like other rules related to construction payment are determined by the location of the project itself, not the home-base of any of the particular project participants. In Illinois, prevailing wage rules and requirements are set forth by the Illinois Prevailing Wages Act. The purpose of this act is to ensure “a wage of no less than the general prevailing hourly rate as paid for work of a similar character in the locality in which the work is performed, shall be paid to all laborers, workers and mechanics employed by or on behalf of any and all public bodies engaged in public works.” [emphasis added] More information about Illinois prevailing wage rules can be found here. But, long story short, if a contractor does work on public projects in Illinois, he/she must: Prepare, maintain and submit certified payroll for all laborers, workers and mechanics who do work on that public project, and ensure they are paid the prevailing wage.
