It appears that we weren't required to send a preliminary notice as a subcontractor on this project. Our customer, Pentek Homes, is the GC. I just want to make sure that was a correct assessment, as we've ordered the lien to be filed.

By and large, Louisiana subcontractors won't have to send preliminary notice in order to preserve their right to file a mechanics lien. Material suppliers and equipment lessors both have notice requirements, and sending a Notice to Owner of Obligations can be useful in making sure deadlines aren't missed. But, subcontractors generally don't need to send notice in Louisiana. With that being said, it's a good idea to send notice on every project, regardless of what's required. Finally, if you're having to file a mechanics lien, this article should be valuable: The 4 Steps to Take After Filing a Mechanics Lien. Additionally, if you've had issues with your GC, you can leave an anonymous review of their payment practices here: Pentek Homes | Levelset Contractor Payment Profiles.
