Unemployment

OhioCoronavirusStimulus

I am a roofer for a company that is out of Pennsylvania. I live in Ohio. The job site is in Cuyahoga county on a empty warehouse. The ruling to my understanding is that roofing is essential under the fact that it's a emergency in either state. Now what I'm wondering is that they pretty much told us to suck it up and come to work or you get short term disability or unpaid time off. Which in case you will not get unemployment if you do the unpaid time. I was wondering can they do something like that.

Ohio's recently amended stay home order pretty broadly allows for construction to continue. So, an Ohio resident performing construction work in Ohio should generally be able to continue work as an "essential" worker. This is especially true for things like emergency repair work for the safety of the structure. Levelset discusses unemployment benefits in this article: What’s in the $2 Trillion Coronavirus Stimulus Bill For Construction Businesses & Their Workers? As mentioned in there, a worker who is quarantined but expects to come back after the quarantine is over may be able to receive unemployment benefits. Generally, furloughed employees, workers who quarantine but are expecting to return to work after that quarantine, and an individual who stops work due to risk of exposure should be able to receive some benefit. For more specific direction, this Unemployment Benefits Finder should be really helpful.
